What men want is so boring and simple and not creative, and I look at myself and I think, How the fuck did I spend my entire life building this, like my body and my personality and my soul, around what I think men desire? Just like, it’s embarrassing. “When, like, in reality, I’m no longer interested in men. “Basically, I feel like I’ve framed my entire womanhood around men,” Jules says. Instead, she tells her therapist that she’s been thinking of going off her hormones. As Jules explains her complicated relationship with her mother, online dating, and fantasy, and reality, she brings us inside her mind-a space where reality, dream, and nightmare all commingle.Īs the session begins, Jules is reluctant to talk about what prompted her to want to run away-a decision she made in the show’s Season 1 finale. Although the special, like the one before it, largely unfolds in a quiet setting-in this case, Jules’s first therapy appointment-Jules’s narration takes us into an impressionistic dream space. “F- Anyone Who’s Not a Sea Blob,” on the other hand, is a return to form. While most of the series seems to unfold from within a hallucinogenic, Instagram-tinged haze, “Rue” grounded us in the sober present as Rue seemed to embark on the journey to really, truly getting clean for the first time. The stripped-down episode proved that substance always lurked beneath that glittery exterior-and provides a wonderful showcase for Zendaya’s astounding rawness as a performer. In December, Euphoria debuted the first of two special episodes produced during the pandemic-“Part One: Rue,” which finds a relapsed Rue sharing pancakes and a wrenching conversation about life with her sober sponsor, Ali (the great Colman Domingo). Hunter Schafer, who plays Jules, shared a poem she’d written with creator Sam Levinson-which became the inspiration for the HBO drama’s second standalone episode, the colorfully titled “F- Anyone Who’s Not a Sea Blob.” The most ambitious, stunning moment from Euphoria’s second special episode came from one of its most beloved performers. And with the title " What's In My Kitchen?" it's already explicitly stated that the show is filmed in her own space. One moment making the rounds on TikTok places clips from both Gomez's and Bieber's shows where they each make an eerily similar disclaimer.īoth stars introduce their respective shows by mentioning that they're filming in their "real kitchen" and that it's "not a set." Yes, those statements may be true for both of them-but Bieber's version seems a little too specific and a little too coincidental.įor Bieber, almost all of the nearly 60 videos on her channel are filmed in her home already. So, while some may accuse Bieber of copying Selena for doing a cooking show, I'm going to go ahead and call that a reach.īut that's not where the similarities end. Stars like Florence Pugh, Jennifer Garner, and Courteney Cox have started their informal cooking shows on social media, with others like Tiffani Thiessen, Tia Mowry, and Trisha Yearwood landing their own cable TV food shows. The first episode was uploaded in December of 2022 and Bieber has only uploaded one other installment as of the publication of this story.īefore we delve deeper into both of the shows, it's essential to note that the concept of a celebrity cooking show is not unique to Gomez, or any celebrity for that matter. It's one of many programs filmed in her and Justin's $26 million Beverly Hills mansion. Hailey Bieber's cooking show, What's In My Kitchen?, can be found on her personal YouTube channel. Selena + Chef has since aired four seasons and featured guests like Rachael Ray, Gordon Ramsay, Padma Lakshmi, and José Andrés. The series first followed the singer, actress, and makeup mogul learning to cook while quarantining during the pandemic, guided virtually by some of the world's most lauded chefs. Gomez's show, Selena + Chef, premiered on HBO Max in 2020. I'm a rare Gen-Zer that neither listened to Justin Bieber's music nor followed the drama surrounding his romantic life), I feel that I'm uniquely qualified to assess the similarities between the two shows and offer as objective a critique as possible. And as someone with no stake in the game (a.k.a. However, one piece of the puzzle that has been receiving the most scrutiny is their respective cooking shows. The years-long tension between the stars has finally reached its boiling point, and internet sleuths are picking apart every social media post, tattoo, and paparazzi photo to get to the bottom of the drama. Then, this week, in what seemed like a completely unrelated event, Gomez posted a lighthearted series of photos and videos on social media, joking with fans that she had " accidentally laminated my brows too much.If you've opened up Twitter or TikTok in the past few weeks, you've likely seen at least one post about Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber. On Thursday, Gomez, who now holds 383 million Instagram followers, became the most-followed woman on the platform, dethroning Kylie Jenner (with 380 million followers). "My medications are important, and I believe they are what helps me." Gomez told viewers that she was "not a model," adding, "I think they're awesome, mind you, I'm just definitely not that." "We have days where maybe we feel like shit, but I would much rather be healthy and take care of myself," Gomez said. (The Live is no longer viewable on the app, but footage of it has been reuploaded by users). She told viewers in a February 16 TikTok Live that her weight fluctuates depending on her medications. Gomez, who's publicly discussed having lupus and a bipolar disorder diagnosis, felt the need to address her weight gain earlier this month. Account icon An icon in the shape of a person's head and shoulders. Postman Cliff featured in the show’s opener, Give Me a Ring Sometime (30 September 1982), then was in nearly every episode until the finale in 1993. His final voiceover was exactly five years later on Love Me, Love My Car (17 December 1992). It finally came in season six on the episode Christmas Cheers (17 December 1987). But he had to wait for his first “Cheers is filmed…”. Naïve, young barman Woody Boyd joined the show at the start of season four, as a replacement for Coach, and stayed until the end. (She also returned as a guest star for the last ever episode in 1993.) Her first go at “Cheers is filmed…” was on the second-season episode Homicidal Ham (27 October 1983) her final instance was on I Do, Adieu (), her last episode as a regular. One of the co-leads when the series began, Shelley Long – who played aspirational waitress Diane – featured in every episode until leaving at the end of the fifth season. Most came before the device was introduced, but in occasional later episodes it was replaced by either a ‘Previously on Cheers’-type voiceover or simply the first line of the opening scene. There are 22 episodes of Cheers that don’t use the phrase. He performed the voiceover 13 times, from season six’s My Fair Clavin (10 December 1987) to season 11’s Is There a Doctor in the Howe? (11 February 1993). But he proved so popular he was promoted to the regular cast and stayed until the end. Psychiatrist Frasier Crane was introduced in the first episode of the 1984/85 season, initially as a short-term character. His final go at it was on the episode It’s Lonely On The Top (29 April 1993). But he was then called on just three times in the next two seasons… and then not again until season 10. When the gimmick was introduced, he actually said it on the first three episodes. One of only three actors who appeared in all 270 episodes of Cheers, George Wendt – who played slovenly but good-natured barfly Norm – was conspicuously underused when it came to assuring viewers that the laughs were genuine. It was on Madame LaCarla (3 October 1991), which came during the 10th season when she’d been temporarily promoted to the regular cast. But despite all these appearances, Neuwirth only got to say “Cheers is filmed before a live studio audience” once. Psychiatrist Lilith was initially a one-off character in season four – a love interest for Frasier Crane – then returned as a semi-regular from season five onwards. The character was a regular from episode one, but Colasanto died from heart disease on 12 February 1985 during production of the show’s third season.ĭespite neurotic bar manager Rebecca being in all 149 episodes made after she joined the cast in 1987, Kirstie Alley performed the introductory voiceover just once: on the episode Paint Your Office (5 November 1987). Of the 10 actors credited in a Cheers opening title sequence, only one never said “Cheers is filmed before a live studio audience”: Nicholas Colasanto, who played dim-witted but eternally loveable barman Coach. Nicholas Colasanto (Coach Ernie Pantusso) – 0 The regular cast shared the duties, on a seemingly random rotation, so I thought it would be edifying – or at least diverting – to see who did it the most often.ġ1. The phrase first appeared on the 13th episode (Now Pitching, Sam Malone, which was broadcast on 6 January 1983) and was used on nearly every episode until the show came to an end with its 11th season in 1993. The device was introduced during the first season to confound rumours that the producers were adding a laughter track. Episodes of the American sitcom Cheers typically begin with a voiceover informing viewers that the show has been recorded with a studio audience in attendance. The new RGB buttons for the transport and cue controls are a huge improvement on the Mk1, with a smooth rubberised “MPC” feel to the surface (and the elimination of the previous problem of the buttons getting stuck in the down position, getting caught on the edge of the button aperture when pressed hard). Previous reviews of the S4 have covered its features and performance extensively, so here we’re going to concentrate on what’s new, and where the successes and failures lie in this upgrade: The S4 Mk2 comes with a full version of Traktor Pro 2 (as before) and although it’s now mapped to work out of the box with Traktor DJ, the fact that the S4 retains the identical casing assembly as its predecessor means that there’s no iPad or iPhone stand, slot or docking station, leaving you to figure that one out for yourself (or wait for the inevitable Traktor-branded iOS stand as an accessory). Little touches like the slimmer fader caps and grey filter knobs in tandem with the RGB buttons and aluminium jogwheel tops have combined to give the S4 a fresh, modern look. But because of the way my s4 behaves, I can't as the touch parameter that activates the FX will be hijacked by the adjust parameter (so I need to create two controls totally divided, one for the adjust, one to turn the fx off, which is kinda ok but defeats the purpose of having a single easy gesture to do all things at once).First Impressions / Setting up New, slimmer fader caps for the track volumes, crossfader and tempo adjust contribute to the sleeker more streamlined look of the S4. So I created a touch osc template to control that and complement my s4 (and I use A&H eq anyway so it made sense to map that externally). Only one finger to control that, it's so cool. The best controls for the mixer FXs for me are instant/touch controls like a touch fader. The way this is implemented or shall I say the way that impacts other mappings sucks. So with a s4 the knob adjust will also activate the fx, and without any hardware where there's a kind of built-in behavior, the mixer fx adjust will not activate the mixer FX. If you're using something like a S4 mk1 that doesn't have dedicated on/off buttons for the filters/mixer FXs, the behavior is different and will be replicated (strangely enough) to any additional/external mapping. also tried playing with the soft release (can't remember exact name) but this also doesn't give the desired effect.Īny help much appreciated, I'm well and truly stumped and this has been driving me mad all day!! This works in the sense that it kills Knob 1 so technically i can move the physical knob back to centre but obviously the software is still at 100%. I've tried to play around with modifiers - my Mixer FX ON/OFF button also toggles Modifier #1 value to 1/0 and I subsequently set Knob 1 to only work when the modifier is set to 1. I can turn knob 1 back to centre and it doesn't put the FX live. I tried mapping a standard FX unit the same way and it works no problem, the effect is only LIVE when the unit is switched ON, i.e. The behaviour only seems to occur with the mixer effects. Likewise if i map an ON/OFF button for the mixer filter on the S4, turning the filter knob on the S4, causes it to go live again. Now here is the issue, once i've killed the effect using the toggle button, i need to be able to turn Knob 1 back to the centre but as soon as I turn it, it switches the mixer effect back on. I've mapped the button to Mixer FX On - toggle and it works great. I also want to map the F1 mute button to kill the mixer effect so that I have an instant kill switch rather than having to turn Knob 1 back to the centre. So, I've created a basic map which uses the F1 pads to choose the type of mixer effect (Delay/Filter/Noise etc) then I've mapped the knob 1 encoder etc. I upgraded to the new Traktor Pro 3 this morning and looking to put the spare F1 to work by mapping the new Mixer FX to the F1. Since introducing the Maschine MK3 into my setup running into Deck D, I now have a spare F1. Please forgive me if this is a daft question but I'm very new to mapping and have hit an early hurdle!Ĭurrent setup is an S4 MK1 and 2 x F1's and Maschine Mk3. This product has a rating of A.* What does this rating mean? And now it's finally gone, and she can breathe easily again. It's been constant and awful and all she's wanted to do is crawl under a blanket and hide from everything. Partly because it's just such a relief to be free of the pain. When the migraine finally breaks, Maya Hart almost cries. So nobody needs to know that he might be going crazy. Once he gets into Bronx Science he'll be fine. Sometimes depersonalization disorders are serious, chronic problems that follow people for life, but sometimes they're just temporary responses to stress. He knows just enough psychology to know that his symptoms more-or-less match up to some kind of depersonalization disorder, and he knows enough about himself to know that he's not going to tell anyone that. The episodes never last longer than a minute or so, but they worry him anyway. One day, he's walking home after school from the subway stop and suddenly can't remember the rest of the route, can't even remember how he got to New York City. When he's sitting in the cafeteria working through a math proof, he looks up and for a moment can't remember where he is or how he got there or who the people around him are. He gets up in the morning to brush his teeth and doesn't recognize the face in the mirror. And he's had this horrible migraine for days now, which isn't making prepping any easier.Īnd (and this is the part he won't tell his dad, because he doesn't want another round of psychiatric appointments right now) sometimes everything seems inexplicably wrong. The SHSATs are coming up and he's not sure he's ready and if he blows it he's definitely not getting into Bronx Science. The man nobody else saw, even when Farkle pointed him out. He sees her, and smiles a relieved smile, and then he's gone.įarkle Minkus's dad is worried that his son had a psychotic episode, so Farkle bites his tongue and stops talking about the strange (but not-strange) man on the subway, the man in the black leather jacket despite the heat, who smiled like he'd been looking for Farkle specificially. She doesn't know who he is, but something in her head says she should recognize him. Riley doesn't say anything, because she's about sixty percent sure that she's dreaming, but she stares at him, trying to figure out what's going on. She thinks she has a pretty good life, all things considered.Īnd then one day, as she's half-dozing through a particularly boring math class, a man appears next to the teacher's desk, and no one else sees him. She gets good grades, but she's not at the top of the class she's well-liked, but not the most popular she's in drama club and book club and astronomy club and every year she tries out for cheerleading and every year she doesn't make the list. She has lots of friends, but not a best friend she likes a few boys, but she's never been in love. Riley is in the eighth grade at John Adams Junior High. She has another uncle and two aunts, but Uncle Eric lives in New York State and Aunt Morgan lives in California and nobody ever seems very sure where Aunt Nebula is at any given moment. Her grandparents live just a couple streets away with her uncle Josh, who's only three years older than Riley is. She lives in Philadelphia with her mom (a lawyer named Topanaga), her dad (a history teacher named Cory), and her little brother (a lovable pain in the neck named Auggie). Riley Matthews is fourteen years, three months, and twelve days old. Title is shamelessly stolen from an otherwise unrelated Declan Bennett song.Īdditional, slightly more spoilery notes at the end. Otherwise, I've done my best to keep character backgrounds and personalities as close to canon as possible, given the AU. The Matthews family still lives in Philadelphia, the Friars are still in Austin, and while Maya and Farkle both live in New York City they've never met. Lucas has been aged down a year and all of the main four now have the same birthday. For purposes of fluff, Whispers and his organization or any like it are not included. It borrows the concept of sensate clusters and associated worldbuilding, but no other plot elements. (Or: Riley, Maya, Farkle, and Lucas are a sensate cluster, and one day they wake up.)Īuthor's Notes: This is a fusion with the Netflix series Sense8.
